Is there something you wanted to do this summer, but you somehow missed out? These four local festivals cover it all – cars, crafts, contests, music, arts, history, fun for the kids, shopping and plenty to eat and drink. Check them out for weekend fun until summer’s end.
Irish Festival – Tabora Farm and Orchard

If you love the culture and music of the Emerald Isle head on out to Tabora Farm and Orchard for their summer Irish Festival on Sun., August 13th from 11 am to 5 pm. Several bands will entertain throughout the day as well as bagpipers and the Fitzpatrick School of Irish Dance. Enjoy food from Irish vendors and draughts from the craft beer and hard apple cider tent. The kids will enjoy Irish face painting, crafts, sheep shearing and spinning demonstrations and the Irish Wolf hounds. In addition to the festival events, the farm store will be open with its complete line of bakery, deli and produce items as well as coffee bar and wine shop. Tickets for the event are $7 each; children age 2 and under are free.
Lansdale Arts Festival/Founder’s Day

Enjoy all that the borough of Lansdale has to offer as they celebrate their Founder’s Day on Sat., August 26th with a full day of activities throughout the town. Begin the day at 9 am at the Farmer’s Market held at the Penndale Middle School or perhaps visit the Arts Festival beginning at 10 am in Memorial Park. The juried art show features fine artists and crafters from all over the region. View the work while listening to a variety of smooth jazz or chamber music. Take a tour of the town’s police station or the Jenkins Homestead, home of the first occupants of the area. Watch the Vintage Car Parade at 11 am and then enjoy the bounty of the Food Festival and Beer Garden from 1 – 7 pm. Visit the fire company, listen to great bands or swim for free in the community pool throughout the day. Top off the evening with a fireworks display scheduled for 9 pm at the Penndale Middle School. Experience farm life as an early Mennonite settler during Hecklerfest on Sat., August 19th from 10 am to 3 pm at the Heckler Plains Farmstead near Harleysville. View living history demonstrations on hand sewing, butter churning, fraktur, rug hooking and flintknapping (the making of chipped stone tools). Children will enjoy the hands-on craft stations where they can try scherensnitte (scissor cutting), quilting, tin punching and corn shelling. Learn about the families who lived on the farm, tour the threshing barn and stop for a drink at the 1820’s style tavern. Watch a vintage baseball game at 11 am played according to rules established in 1864. Also on hand will be craft vendors, food and beverages and pies baked in the outdoor bake oven. Admission to the event is by donation which is used to support the Folklife Society’s ongoing maintenance and restoration work.

Support the work of area Mennonite homes for older adults at this festival that has something for everyone on Sat., August 26th from 9 am to 3 pm! Enjoy a car show throughout the day and a gospel concert by The Brunner Family at 10:30 am. Shop in the Mommy Market, bake sale or place your bids in the silent auction. Sign up for the Pennsylvania Dutch Baking contest for kids and adults in the Shoo Fly Pie, Funny Cake, Apple Pie, or Sticky Buns/Cinnamon Rolls categories. Plenty of food will be available including Chicken BBQ, pulled pork, a Curbside Creamery Ice Cream Truck, fresh baked pies and Rita’s water ice. Kids will love the face painting, inflatables, photo booth, a visit from the Phillie Phanatic and a show on animal adaptations by the Lehigh Valley Zoo at 12:30 pm.
