Do you need some help decorating for the Halloween season? Come on out to Norristown Farm Park join in the fun as you learn how to make your own scarecrow on Sun., Oct. 15 at 2 pm. Participants should bring any clothing items, accessories and a head for their straw man/woman and the park will supply the straw. See if you can be judged the scariest, most original, or best overall. Pre-registration along with a $5 fee per scarecrow is required.

All Hallow’s Eve Fall Festival – 10/21

This fall festival promises to deliver lots of traditional fall fun activities for the entire family on Sat., Oct. 21 from 1 to 4 pm. Take a hayride through the meadow, select and paint a pumpkin and make a variety of fall-themed crafts. Learn about and try your hand at 20th century harvest tasks like shucking corn, shredding and pressing apples to make cider on an old-fashioned apple press. Relax and enjoy a game of bean bag toss or let loose and jump in the hay! Everyone is invited to participate with a suggested donation of $2 per person.

You never know who you might meet while walking through an old cemetery. Learn about some of the famous people who once lived in the area during this unique walking tour through the churchyard cemetery at Old Goshenhoppen Church near Harleysville on Sat., Oct. 21. Karin and Bruce Stocking of the WS Hancock Society will discuss the art and symbolism behind headstones, old-time funeral practices and history of some of the “residents.” There will be a 12 pm tour as well as torchlight evening tours beginning at 6 pm and continuing every half hour until 8:30 pm. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. Bring a flashlight or lantern for evening tours. This is NOT a haunted attraction; the WS Hancock Society’s mission is to educate while providing room for the imagination to be ignited!

Nothing says Halloween quite like things that creep, swoop and hoot in the night. Join in the pre-season fun while learning all about some of the animals often associated with Halloween during this presentation on Wed., Oct. 25 at 1 pm. Listen to a seasonal story and make some spooky crafts. There may even be a trick or treat! The program is for children ages 3 and older with an accompanying adult. Pre-registration is required along with a $5 per child fee. Meet in the Salt Wing of the dairy barn.

Twilight Spooky Hike – 10/29

It gets spooky when the sun sets and that makes it the perfect time for a hike in the woods. Without natural light to guide the way, you’ll need to rely on your other senses. This quiet evening walk on Sun., Oct. 29 at 6:30 pm will give you an opportunity to listen for and learn about the sounds made by night time animals as well as hear a few haunting tales of local origin. Pre-registration is required and is limited to 25 people. This program is free and for adults only. Meet-up is in parking lot #2.
