The New Year is here and many of us are wondering how to shed extra pounds gained over the last month. Or maybe, you have a renewed commitment to better health in 2019! If winter cabin fever usually has you climbing the walls, you might as well burn away that holiday flab and build muscle by climbing the walls literally! Introductory lessons at the Rock Gym teach you everything you need to know to learn this sport and enjoy it safely. Perfect your form over the winter and be ready to hit the court come spring. Or develop new tennis skills with starter lessons and fun yet competitive matches. This indoor court offer lessons for beginners, ladies workout drill sessions, and evening men’s workouts.

Local YMCAs always see a big boost in memberships come January as everyone is looking to work off those holiday pounds. Don’t forget to consider the pool as a great way to exercise your muscles. Not interested in a Y or gym membership – check out your local high school. Many facilities offer open swims for the community in the evenings at rates that are significantly lower than a gym membership and many are pay as you go. A few possibilities include these school districts:

Take to the Trails
Montgomery County has nearly 60 miles of trails throughout the region and plenty of opportunities for individual and group activities. Choose a trail for a brisk walk or join one of the winter bird or wildflower walks sponsored by the Montgomery County Park system or the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy.
Learn a new skill and take the Cross-Country Ski Clinic at Norristown Farm Park on Jan. 13th. Run in the Meltdown 5K at Free Will Brewing Company on March 24 or signup for the annual Snowshoe 5K at Spring Mountain taking place on Jan. 26th. Too face paced? Simply enjoy a quiet winter walk in the woods.
