With award winning dancers, a state-of-the-art studio, and quality dance training led by an outstanding faculty, Edge Dance Company in Jenkintown has made a name for themselves as a leader in the Montgomery County dance community, even recently taking home the Happening List Win for favorite Dance Studio. A talented team of over a dozen professionally trained instructors provide Edge dancers with high standards of technique, style, creativity and performance. Taking training a step further, Edge Dance Company immerses dancers in the culture of each style of dance through dance performances and conventions, in order to truly instill a love of dance.
With a studio like Edge Dance in our own backyard, local dancers do not need to travel to Philadelphia and New York City to receive professional dance instruction. To celebrate the talent in our own back yard, we’re turning the spotlight on the instructors that lead Edge Dance Company’s award-winning programs and choreography. First up, meet Alex Miller:
Alex Miller
Alex is a Delaware County native who grew up in the competition/convention circuit. She transitioned from full force competition student to teacher and choreographer while she completed her undergrad at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
With a heavy background of jazz and lyrical training growing up, it was a whirlwind experience when she fell into the fast paced hip hop industry. Her love, passion, and skill soared as she landed jobs opening up for America’s Best Dance Crew’s Kaba Modern, back up dancing for Pretty Poison’s Jade Starling, special solo guest performer for the Made 2 Laff Comedy show, guest performer in Philadelphia’s Fringe Festival, a member of Point Blank Dance Crew, and recently being invited to dance with Project Moshen, a popular modern/jazz dance company based out of the Philadelphia area.
Although teaching and choreographing consumes much of her time, she keeps taking class and going to conventions as a high priority. The past three years she has traveled with Monsters of Hip Hop dance convention across the United States taking classes from the industry’s top choreographers and dancers. Attending as many as 11 cities in a season gives her the opportunity to constantly be inspired and keeps her style and material fresh and up to date with the current dance world. The blend of this experience combined with her technical background and close friends/fellow dancers as her muse has allowed her to create her own style of both jazz and contemporary. The combination of the above is what fuels her passion to teach, with hopes of passing on the same love of dancing that her teachers did for her.
You can find Alex teaching at Edge Dance Company at the following times each week:
Thursday 7:00pm – 8:00pm: THE EDGE JAZZ
Saturday 11:30am – 12:30pm: THE EDGE PRODUCTION
