Easter celebrations are some of the most anticipated activities of spring as weather warms, flowers begin to bloom and the earth springs back to life. In preparation for the season, local churches and parks are hosting a wide variety of activities including craft activities, egg hunts and religious observances. Check out the list below for opportunities in your area.

Religious Observances

In addition to regular services at churches throughout the area, several organizations are hosting special services or programs in celebration of the religious observance of Easter.

This is Easter

“This is Easter” is a dramatic presentation of Christ’s final week on earth, including the Last Supper, Crucifixion and Resurrection held on Good Friday, April 14th at 8 pm. The 30 minute outdoor presentation will take place against a 30 ft. high man-made mountain backdrop on the Freddy Hill grounds. The program is family friendly and free to the public. Join the members of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schwenksville for resurrection services on Sun., April 16th at 7 am. The unique setting on the grounds of Ott’s Exotic Plants provides the perfect backdrop with their cave-like stone cavern and floral mountain. Calvary Fellowship Church in Wayne, PA will be hosting a sunrise service at the Valley Forge National Historical Park on Sun., April 16th at 7am. Follow the park’s main road along Outer Line Dr. to the National Memorial Arch. Parking is available on site and the event is open to everyone. If you are looking for a new way to dye eggs for this year’s baskets, why not try using nature’s pallet? Join in the fun at Green Lane Park on Sat., April 8th at 1 pm to learn how to dye eggs using natural materials. The program will be held at the stone pavilion in the Deep Creek Area of the park. Participants should bring one dozen hard-boiled eggs and $4 to cover the cost of dying materials. The workshop is for anyone age 5 to adult.

Learn about our wooly sheep friends in this kid’s workshop on Wed., April 5th at either 10 am or 1 pm. Participants will make a wool craft to take home and visit the sheep that live on the farm. The program is for children ages 3 and up and they must be accompanied by an adult. There is a $5 fee per child. Pre-registration is required.

Learn about real bunnies, especially our local Eastern Cottontail, at this fun workshop on Tues., April 4th at 1 pm. Listen to a rabbit story, make a craft to take home and meet a friendly bunny from the Elmwood Park Zoo. Pre-registration is required along with the $5 per child fee. Meet in the salt wing of the barn. This program is for children 3 years of age and up accompanied by an adult.

Egg Hunts

Take the kids on an educational egg hunt Sun., April 9th at 3pm. Children ages 6-8 will be challenged to find eggs hidden in the woods and fields by following a series of ecological clues. Everything will lead to a special treasure at the end of the hunt. Younger children (ages 3-5) will simply hunt for eggs beginning at 2 pm. Children ages 3-5 should bring a small basket for collecting. Be aware of the two different start times for each age category. Pre-registration is required by April 6th. Children must be accompanied by an adult and there is a $1 per child fee. Meet at the pavilions.

Join the Easter Bunny for brunch upcoming weekends in April at the Elmwood Park Zoo. Brunch tickets include entrance to the zoo, a hot buffet brunch, a visit and photo ops with the Easter Bunny, crafts and an egg hunt divided into age categories. Prizes will be given based on the number of eggs gathered in 30 seconds and special secret eggs contain prizes as well. Tickets are available online or by calling Guest Services at (610) 277-3825 ext. 222.

Hop on over to the annual Easter egg hunt in Narberth Park on Sat., April 8th at 1 pm sharp! Bring your baskets and watch the kids comb the grounds for eggs. There are several age categories and the event is free. Mr. & Mrs. Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos too. Rain date is Sat., April 15th.

Enjoy a morning of activities including an egg hunt on the grounds of West Laurel Hill Cemetery on Sat., April 8th beginning at 10 am. There will be photos with Mr. & Mrs. Bunny, a crafting station headed up by the Wayne Art Center, balloons, caricatures and face painting. Raffles and an egg hunt start at 11 am featuring chocolate eggs sponsored by Zitners Fine Confections! Cost for the event is $10 per family (kids age 10 and under) with all proceeds going toward Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Tickets can be purchased online or the day of the event. The hunt will be held at the Conservatory; see the website for directions.

Don’t miss this year’s Horsham Township Easter egg hunt on Sat., April 8th at 10:30 am at the Horsham Library. Pose for photos with the Easter Bunny and enjoy crafts, snacks and a free egg hunt. In case of rain, there will be a modified egg hunt.

On April 8th, they’ll host an unlimited breakfast event for just $7 with the one and only Easter Bunny for the Salisbury community to enjoy. All proceeds from the breakfast will go to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an American pediatric cancer foundation.

Additionally, through April 8th, children of all ages will be able to enter a coloring contest at Applebee’s. Paper and crayons will be provided and once the kids have finished their masterpiece, they are encouraged to hang the final product up in the restaurant for customers to admire. We would love to have you stop by Applebee’s on April 8th and any time before then to participate in these fun community events!
