Beginner Friendly
The Beloved Delaware Canal Towpath
Walk on the flat and easy towpath through Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties to explore the area around you! The towpath is 60 miles in length and is pet friendly. It’s the perfect start for a beginner for an easy stroll, run, and bike ride.
Cross Country Trail
The multi-use trail begins at its junction with the Schuylkill River Trail and proceeds north to its current terminus at Germantown Pike for a length of 3.0 miles. The trail passes by many retail spots, such as the Metroplex shopping center, and it has access to public transportation in Conshohocken and Plymouth Meeting. Go for a bike ride, stop and shop, and continue on your journey!
Fort Washington State Park
The park consists of 493 acres in eastern Montgomery County for the enjoyment of hikers, picnic goers, and anyone looking to enjoy some time in this peaceful historic park. The park gets its name from the temporary fort built by George Washington’s troops in the fall of 1777, prior to heading to Valley Forge. Are you an avid bird watcher? This is a great spot for you to take in the sight of the seasonal migration of raptors from the Observation Deck!

Off the Beaten Path
The Forbidden Drive in Wissahickon Valley Park
Take a quick drive from Montgomery County to this 10.7- mile trail that got its name when cars were banned from driving on it in the 1920s. Take this out-and-back easy route for a walk, run, or bike ride, through its generally easy trail with a mix of steepness towards the 5-mile mark. Make sure to go see the Thomas Mill Covered Bridge along the way!
For the View
Valley Forge National Historical Park
With 3,600 acres of rolling hills, the Valley Forge National Historical Park offers picturesque views and some original structures that date back to the American Revolutionary War. Sites of the county are connected to Philadelphia through the Schuylkill River Trail on the north side of the park. Beyond views and historic landmarks, the park offers picnic areas, and a six-mile multi-use trail, along with many miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails.

Fly high in the sky in a hot air balloon! This is a great outdoor activity to try, especially as you fly over the foliage of Montgomery County. Fly high enough to see the Philadelphia city skyline and low enough to be right along the tree tops! The flight takes about three hours so pack your camera and bring your adventurous friends for a fun outing!

Looking for something out-of-the-box and off the ground? Elmwood has something for you. Treetop Adventures features over 50 challenge games and zip lining that covers up to 50 feet in the tree tops. This is the state’s only ropes course with zip lines over animal exhibits! There are various courses to choose from for a variety of abilities. Try one, try them all! Historic Pottstown Carousel

The Pottstown Carousel is the second oldest operating Philadelphia Toboggan Company wooden carousel in the United States. It took almost 20 years of volunteer time to renovate the historic ride. The area also offers a variety of gift shops that feature an array of souvenir items including t-shirts, ornaments, and Reppert’s candy.
