The BRC, which has locations in Abington, Bensalem, and Wayne, PA, has received a $5,000 grant from the Green Tree Community Health Foundation in support of general operating expenses. Susan Hansen, PhD., President and CEO of the Foundation, on behalf of the Board of Trustees on May 25, 2017, made announcement of the grant.
Colette Acker, Executive Director of the BRC, said the funds would be used for general operating expenses. The BRC’s program started in 2003 by Colette and a colleague because not all women were able to afford professional breastfeeding services. Now, two insurance plans cover a visit, but many don’t including Medicaid plans. Colette says, “We are so thankful for Green Tree Community Health Foundation. They’ve supported us from the beginning and we wouldn’t be here without them!”
A community health advocate, the Green Tree Community Health Foundation is a not-for-profit public charity that identifies areas of vulnerability in the communities of Northwest Philadelphia and Eastern Montgomery County and provides funding to organizations whose work addresses these needs. The Foundation seeks to have a positive impact on current and emerging health issues and risks, empowering residents to access health services and value, embrace and maintain their health.
