Philly Fights Cancer: Round 4
Nov 10 – Nov 11 all-day

Philly Fights Cancer: Round 4 will once again pack a punch on Saturday, November 10th at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This year’s event will feature a performance by comedy icon Jerry Seinfeld, followed by a concert from internationally acclaimed Grammy-winning pop superstars Maroon 5. The signature fundraising event of Philly Fights Cancer stands out as one of the highlights of the Philadelphia social season. This star-studded evening, which welcomes guests of all ages, honors the doctors and physicians working to eradicate cancer by showcasing the stories of survivors whose lives have been saved as a result of the groundbreaking medical advances of the Abramson Cancer Center.

This year’s honorary physician will be Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center researcher Dr. Carl June, the Richard W. Vague Professor in Immunotherapy. Dr. June was recently named to TIME Magazine’s 2018 TIME 100 – its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world – for his breakthrough CAR-T cell therapy. Last year, the FDA approved Kymriah™ (formerly CTL019) for pediatric leukemia, and Dr. Carl June and colleagues at Penn continue to lead the immunorevolution to expand this life-saving therapy to other cancers. The treatment has been deemed a “miracle drug,” and its approval was referred to by the FDA as “historic action.” The New York Times called it “a milestone that is expected to transform treatment.”

This year’s honorary chair will be Sean Parker, Founder and Chairman of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. The Institute was established in April 2016 through a grant from the Parker Foundation, which brought together 6 institutions across the United States aimed at accelerating the development of breakthrough immune therapies – including a Penn Parker Institute.

Philly Fights Cancer: Round 3 raised $7 million, and was attended by over 1,700 donors, doctors, survivors, executives, and philanthropists, all of whom came together to celebrate the work of the Abramson Cancer Center. To date, Philly Fights Cancer has raised over $16 million.

Victorian Christmas Open House
Dec 8 @ 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm

There is nothing quite as Victorian as visiting Pennypacker Mills’ Christmas Open House. With an entertaining bell choir playing Christmas music, a Victorian Santa Claus welcoming families, and living historians inside the mansion portraying family and friends, this one day gives visitors a glimpse of Christmastime in the early 1900’s. With greens on every mantle, silky ribbon strewing throughout, shiny glass and tin ornaments to add shine to the tree, and plainly wrapped presents beneath, visitors will be treated to a special experience at each room. In the kitchen, see a clear toy candy demonstration with three-dimensional clear candies. The Museum Shop, which is stocked with unique Victorian inspired ornaments, gift items, books, children’s toys, and holiday sweets.

All ages; free, suggested donation $2 per person.

Pennypacker Mills is the home of Pennsylvania Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker (1903-1907) and his family.
