Full Moon Hike
Sep 24 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

DESCRIPTION

Take a brisk hike through moonlit gardens, meadows, and woods. Your guide will share specially chosen points of interest and seasonal highlights. The two-hour walk over hilly and uneven terrain is a brisk hike, not a garden tour, so prepare accordingly. No children under 16 or pets, please. Full Moon hikes fill quickly; register soon to reserve your spot. Fee: $35 ($30 FONA Members) Registration required. Min 15, Max 25 tickets.

This hike will begin at 7:00 PM, please arrive early for you will not be able to enter the gate of the Arboretum once the hike begins.

Weather and Cancellations: Hikes will be held in many types of weather including light rain or snow. If the Arboretum cancels the hike due to unsafe conditions or threat of inclement weather, you will be contacted by email the afternoon of the hike and offered a refund or an opportunity to reschedule. FONA Refund Policy: A full refund will be provided for cancellations received no later than 7 days prior to the program date and for events canceled by Friends of the National Arboretum. We do not reschedule missed programs.

Wild Mushroom Walk

Wild mushrooms present an identification challenge, even to seasoned mycologists. Come on this annual fall walk to increase your knowledge of mushroom species. Which mushrooms are better eyed than fried? That’s a good thing to know! Learn why fungi are such an important part of our ecosystem. Meet in the classroom, adjacent to the restrooms. Pre-registration is required. The walk is limited to 25 people.

Audubon Bird Town Bird Walk

Join the regularly scheduled third-Tuesday-of-the-month bird walk led by members of the Wyncote Audubon Society.  Bring binoculars if you have them.  Expect to see warblers, vireos, other songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors.  Ages: adults and children 12 and up.  Meet in the parking lot on Moredon Road. 

Audubon Bird Town Bird Walk on the Pennypack Trail

Meet at the Welsh Road/Terwood Road parking area for the Pennypack Trail.  This is one of the regular third-Tuesday-of-the-month morning bird walks that are led by members of the Wyncote Audubon Society.  Explore the Pennypack Trail in the area of the Bethayres Swamp, an official Audubon IBA (Important Bird Area).  Look for resident winter birds and early spring migrants.  All are welcome, both new birders and those with experience.  Bring binoculars if you have them.  Pre-registration is preferred, but not required.  Ages: adults and children 12 and up.
