This April, MaGerk’s Pub & Grill in Fort Washington will be host to an important local event designed to help raise funds, awareness and support for cancer research. The 3rd annual Daniel B. Allanoff Memorial Concert is happening on Friday, April 15th from 7:30pm – 11:30pm, and our entire community is encouraged to attend! Whether you knew Danny personally or are learning of his legacy through this article, the mission remains the same. To bring our community together in a show of solidarity and support for those we have lost to cancer, and for those fighting against this disease on a daily basis. The upcoming concert is a great way to show your support for their unbelievable strength and courage. Read more about Daniel’s story below, and click here for ticket and sponsorship information.
DANIEL’S STORY
The Daniel B. Allanoff Foundation was established to honor the memory and courage of local resident, husband, and father, Daniel Allanoff. In 1999, Danny was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After rounds of chemo and a stem-cell transplant, Danny’s cancer went back into remission. In 2011, Danny was then diagnosed with chemo-induced Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), and in 2012, underwent a bone marrow transplant that required months of treatments, accompanied by further medical complications.
Danny fought courageously for two years, and many years before that, to beat this cancer. Few knew the full extent of his battle and the suffering he endured. Sadly, Danny lost his valiant fight with cancer on January 27th, 2013.
“It was horrifying to watch such an incredible person – who loved life and friends and family so deeply – undergo months upon months of chemotherapy, isolation, transfusions, fevers and other terrible side effects from this relentless disease and even drugs themselves.” Andrea Allanoff
Using his courage as their inspiration, the members of the Daniel B. Allanoff Foundation are bringing new hope to families experiencing the same kind of trauma. Their fundraising efforts have helped accelerate the level of research being done to combat the devastating effects of blood cancers, and they have already begun to break new grounds! Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania are studying Danny’s own leukemic cells to help advance the understanding and treatment of the disease. Scientists will be able to use his cells as a tool for testing different drug combinations and DNA research. In that way and so many more, Daniel Allanoff’s memory remains alive and well with us each day. Three years after his loss, Daniel is still providing inspiration, hope and help to families suffering from this awful disease.
With the hope of raising funds for continued research, the Allanoff family is hosting their annual Memorial Concert on April 15th from 7:30 – 11:30pm at MaGerk’s Fort Washington. Our local community is invited to come drink, eat and dance the night away as the members of The B Street Band provide live music throughout the night. This year, the Daniel B. Allanoff Foundation is excited to recognize and honor a great friend of DBA, Andrew B. Katz, for his astonishing willpower and unshakable optimism during his battle with leukemia.
