Based in the Mt Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia, Sara Steele has been exhibiting professionally since 1974 in the U.S. and Europe and traveled to China in 2006 as part of a formal arts delegation. A self-taught artist, she’s been recognized with over 50 solo shows, including an 80-piece retrospective in 2005 at the Berman Museum of Ursinus College (Collegeville, PA). Her widely collected work was first published in 1979 (The Women’s Resources Poster) and has since been licensed in scores of formats including cards for Trader Joe’s. Two monographs documenting her work have been published: In Bloom (1995) and Blueprints for Paradise (2005). This year marks the 40th publication of Sara’s annual wall calendar featuring her vivid watercolors.
“Through her thought-provoking, richly evocative paintings and her dedicated activism, Sara Steele illustrates her deep connection with the natural world and inspires us to likewise love and respect all life on Earth.” – Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder, The Jane Goodall Institute & United Nations Messenger of Peace
Sara’s compositions vary from intimate floral microcosms to large sweeping vistas. Using a wide range of pigments, from traditional mineral and dye-based pigments to specialized interference colors and bronze powders, Sara achieves an unusually dramatic level of luminosity and saturation in her watercolors. Prints, books, and calendars will be available for purchase. Learn more about Sara and view more of her work at: www.sarasteele.com
