From their very own “Award Winning Garden”, right to your plate! Trax Restaurant in Ambler has a clear understanding of what fresh food really means, and their emphasis on that very knowledge is what has been separating them from the crowd. Owner & Head Chef Steve Waxman is not your average cook, and his dishes have been an artful reflection of that attribute since 1998. After all, it’s a rare sight to see the head chef of any restaurant picking fresh herbs and veggies from their very own garden, but that’s exactly what you’ll find here. Located just inside the Old Ambler Train Station, this family oriented establishment has been setting the standards for “flow in daily” food since it’s opening.
Chef Waxman’s early culinary career started not so much in the food business, but in the family wine business. As a young man he was able to visit many countries sampling some of their finest wines, which undoubtedly were accompanied by exceptional cuisine. Through these experiences he developed a taste for quality and a talent for cooking that deservedly led him to apprenticeship’s up and down the east coast of the United States. After years of refining his craft, Chef brought his faith for freshness back to Ambler! As a testament to his passion, Chef Waxman gets his ingredients from small, local purveyors that he knows he can trust – a nearby Korean fresh fish market, a local butcher, Maple Acres Farm and other nearby farms as well. His ability to bring sophisticated tastes and flavors out of simple and fresh ingredients is a talent that he’s more than proud to serve, and that we’re more than happy to eat!
Trax Restaurant & Café is a cozy BYOB in the old Ambler Train Station. A neighborhood gem serving tastefully American cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, organic ingredients. Trax has 45 seats inside the old frame station, which sits alongside the R5 tracks. The cozy space has several intimate window-side nooks. When the sun is shining, the BYOB (bring your own bottle) also seats 30 outside, right next to the garden!
Trax Restaurant & Cafe was recently featured in Montgomery Newspapers, Mainline Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine’s BYOB Restaurant Guide, Zagat’s Guide of Best Secret Gardens, the Intelligencer and on NBC-TV’s 10! show. Chef Waxman teaches cooking classes for many local adult schools and is always happy to share his recipes.
