Spring is just around the corner, so why not get a jump on enjoying it by attending the 35th annual Flower Show at Peter Becker Community in Harleysville on March 15-17. Following on the heels of the popular Philadelphia show, this local show offers fewer crowds and no traffic!
This year’s theme is Legendary Gardens and will explore the folklore of Ireland, the mystique of Atlantis, the heroic Mount Olympus and more. Dozens of the community’s residents and volunteers force trees, bulbs and flowers into early bloom and arrange them into stunning displays. Admission to the show is free of charge. Donations are welcomed however to further the work and services of the residential and continuing care community.
In addition to the flower show, there will be both an art show and the popular Spring Marketplace.
As part of the Senior Art and Photography Contest, artists over age 55 will present a variety of work. The showcase will include photography, paintings, drawings, mixed media and textile submissions. Following the flower show theme, the art exhibition will also feature the folklore (legends), flowers or landscape of Ireland.
Another popular component of the event is the Spring Marketplace. Over 30 local crafters, culinary artisans, jewelry makers, growers and more will be on hand. A special feature will be a display of vintage garden bikes and antique doors decorated with seasonal blooms. Win your favorite pieces by bidding at the silent auction. A display of entrance gardens, working garden trains, a gift shop and on-site café round out the offerings.
The show is open Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. A pancake breakfast will be served Sat. morning from 8 – 10 am. Peter Becker Community is located at 800 Maple Ave., Harleysville, PA 19438. A free shuttle service is available for transportation between the Flower Show located in the Campus Center and the Spring Marketplace located in the Maplewood Estates section of the community.
