The leaves are in full color and the days are still fairly warm, but don’t let the holidays sneak up on you unprepared. Get a jump on your holiday preparations and tap your creativity with these crafting workshops designed for both adults and kids. Most workshops and classes fill up, so register early.

Holiday Craft Workshops – 11/18

Go green this holiday season by making all natural decorations at these two workshop on Sat., Nov. 18 at the park in the Deep Creek Pavilion. Participants in the 10 am session with make a “Holiday Centerpiece” for the tabletop using local pinecones, pods and nuts. The 1 pm workshop will use natural materials to create “Winsome Woodland Critters.” Pre-registration is required and spaces are limited. Bring your own hot glue gun if you have it, but plenty will be on hand. Workshops are designed for ages 12 and up and there is an $8 per person, per workshop materials fee.

More Holiday Crafts – 12/2

Come out to the park and enjoy crafting in the nippy air by the great stone fireplace of the Deep Creek Pavilion on Sat., Dec. 2. Create unique holiday decorations using natural materials provided for you. The 10 am workshop will teach you how to make “Kissing Balls” which can be used for many years to come. At 1:00 pm, learn how to make a “Holiday Wall-hanging.” Participants are welcome to sign up for one or both workshops. Bring your own hot glue gun if you have one, but many will be on hand. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required. Workshops are designed for ages 12 and over and there is an $8 per person materials fee per workshop.

Thanksgiving Centerpieces – 11/19

Prepare your Thanksgiving table centerpiece during this workshop on Sun., Nov. 19 at 1 pm. Park staff will provide colorful leaves, acorns and other nuts, grasses, field-dried wild flowers, berries, and fresh fall flowers for your masterpiece. You supply the creativity and vision. Crafters should also bring clippers and a special container, opaque vase, or a basket with a liner for the decorative base. Preregistration is for adults and children ages 14 and over. There is a $5 per person fee.

Holiday Wreaths – 11/26

Looking for a seasonal wreath that you can use indoors or outdoors? Make your own unique holiday wreath on Sun., Nov. 26 at 1 pm that you’ll be proud to hang anywhere. If you like, add a seasonal ribbon or bow. Natural materials such as pine cones, grapevine, nuts and dried flower pods as well as ribbon are included in the $5 per person fee. Participants should bring a glue gun and glue sticks. Preregistration is required. The workshop is for ages 14 and over.

Natural Ornaments – 12/10

Are you looking for extra special decorations this year? Join the park staff for their traditional natural ornament program on Sun., Dec. 10 at 1 pm. Use seeds, pods, evergreen cones, and other natural materials to create holiday ornaments and whimsical woodland critters. Samples will be on display as patterns and inspiration for your own creations. There are new ideas every year! Bring a glue gun and glue sticks and craft away for the 2 hour program. This workshop is for adults and children ages 10 and older. Pre-registration is required.

The Home Depot

Don’t forget to check out your local Home Depot store for holiday craft projects, especially for the kids. With several stores throughout the Montgomery County area, plenty of seats should be available. Registration can be done online by clicking on the DIY Projects and Ideas tab and searching for your local store. Several workshops are scheduled throughout the season:

For kids’ projects: Children must be accompanied by an adult. Each participant will also receive a FREE certificate of achievement and a Workshop Apron.

Christmas Tree Ornament (for Kids) – Sat., Nov. 25, 9 am – 12 pm

Kids will make a tree ornament that doubles as a picture frame.

Gingerbread House (for kids) – Sat., Dec. 2, 9 am – 12 pm

Cutting back on sugar? This traditional holiday craft requires no frosting as it is made of wood. Kids will assemble and decorate this project that will last for years to come!

Stocking Holder Decorative Box – Thurs, Nov. 16, 6:30 – 8 pm.

Store Associates will show you how to cut, stain and assemble a stocking hanger box for the fireplace mantel which can be used to display your family’s stockings. This workshop provides instruction, demonstration and hands-on learning.
