Intimate weddings have become quite popular since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Frankly, they’ve become standard. Dare we call them “The New Normal”? Even as restrictions ease, though, many couples remain drawn to a smaller guest count. Shifting focus upon the comfort, rather than the quantity of guests is a justifiable motive. Fortunately, the Delaware Valley has an abundance of gorgeous wineries and vineyards capable of hosting such intimacy. Below, explore a few of the most desirable destinations.
Rose Bank Winery
Located in the heart of beautiful Bucks County, Rosebank Winery boasts rustic elegance. The winery is situated on a subdivision of land originally deeded by William Penn to his daughters.
The estate consists of a manor house and several outbuildings. The manor house was constructed of dressed stone and is one of only 25 built in Bucks County. A carriage house and barn were later added. After an unfortunate lightning strike, half of the barn burned to the ground. Fortunately, it was formally reconstructed and now includes a gorgeous, landscaped patio. Later, in 2012, the Rose Ballroom was built and represents an ideal venue for weddings and larger parties. The possibilities at Rose Bank Winery are endless. Lest we forget to mention, the wine is bottled and sold on site in Newtown, PA. There are three unique party venues – The Rose Ballroom, The Buckman Barn and The Vintner’s Ballroom & Loft. Rose Bank Winery is located at 258 Durham Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.
Unionville Vineyards
Tucked in the hillside of Hunterdon County, Unionville Vineyards is an 88 acre farm property that offers breathtaking views to be shared by all on our special day. The day-of festivities begins in the quaint 1958 farmhouse, offering endless charm and plenty of space for you and your bridal party. The ceremony takes place behind the farmhouse with stunning views of the vineyard. A farm to table dinner will be served by Fenwick Catering of Princeton, complemented by Unionville Vineyard’s estate-grown fine wines. There are two wedding packages to choose from that can accompany up to 175 guests. Unionville Vineyards is located at 9 Rocktown Rd., Ringoes, NJ 08551.
Sand Castle Winery
Combining European and American tradition, Sand Castle Winery was founded in 1974. Spanning 72 acres that overlook the scenic Delaware River, they grow four European vinifera grapes. Sand Castle wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on the property. Sand Castle Winery offers a notably relaxing environment. The 21,000 square foot chateau includes a Garden Terrace, a second floor Grand Hall, an expansive tasting room and a 7,000 square foot wine cellar. Weddings are held in The Garden Terrace and The Grand Hall, offering both indoor and outdoor options. The Garden Terrace overlooks the Delaware River and the Bucks County hillsides. Alternatively, The Grand Hall has a private balcony with views of the vineyard and rolling hills of both Bucks and Hunterdon counties. Sand Castle Winery is located at 755 River Rd., Erwinna, PA 18920.
Crossings Vineyards
Less than a mile from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River in 1776 sits a 20 acre vineyard. Owned and operated by The Carrol Family, crossing Vineyards is a unique and gorgeous setting for weddings and rehearsal dinners. Set on a 200-year-old estate, the vineyards offer stunning views, beautiful sunsets and a special place to make magical memories. Weddings can take place in the Vistas tented space, accommodating up to 175 guests or for a more intimate wedding, the winery holds up to 75 guests. Crossing Vineyards is located at 1853 Wrightstown Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
Cardinal Hollow
If Montgomery County better fits the geographic criteria set for your event, you must not overlook Cardinal Hollow Winery. Christopher Boyd, the owner and winemaker started experimenting with wine making in 1995. Today he offers over 25 different wines, including, most notable, a Jalapeno option. Currently, over 2,000 gallons of wine are produced each year. Private events at the winery are available for up to 50 people.
