Jefferson Outpatient Imaging Offers Access to the Best

Medical Prowess

When you need medical imaging, you want the best care available.  You need to determine the issues, the extent, and the course of action without error. Radiology is a vital piece of regaining and maintaining health.  You don’t want to second-guess results.  And you certainly don’t want to make the process more stressful.

Enter, Jefferson Outpatient Imaging.

Jefferson Outpatient Imaging Malvern

The same expertise that is trusted by Philadelphia’s professional sports teams is accessible throughout Philadelphia and the suburbs with Jefferson Outpatient Imaging (JOI). JOI offers exceptional care by pairing leading-edge technology with nationally recognized physicians.

But beyond the medicine, patient comfort is also a top priority. We caught up with the team at  JOI’s newest Malvern location to learn more.

Marketing Manager Gina Wahl explained that the staff focuses on being compassionate and helping patients relax. JOI offers amenities such as warm blankets and choice of music during a procedure as extra touches that help keep patients at ease. Other features are available for patients who may have language barriers. At Jefferson Outpatient Imaging, patients are offered telephone translation service in over 130 languages. This allows patients to understand everything taking place. In addition, technologists explain each step of the imaging process and answer any questions along the way.

Several key features of Jefferson Outpatient Imaging’s new Malvern location make it a stand-out facility. The brand-new building and state of the art equipment ensure that patients have access to the most recent medical imaging technology available. And unlike other facilities, where images may be read by only a general radiologist, every study at Jefferson Outpatient Imaging is read and interpreted by a subspecialized radiologist. That means the physician reading the images has received additional training in their specific field of expertise and works only within their division.

“When you come to Jefferson Outpatient Imaging, your brain MRI will always be interpreted exclusively by a neuroradiologist,” Wahl explains,
“and a knee MRI will always be interpreted exclusively by a musculoskeletal radiologist.”

One of the more well-known procedures performed at the center is magnetic resonance imaging or  MRI. Here too, Jefferson Outpatient Imaging offers a more patient-friendly version with the use of a wide bore MRI machine. Wide bore means that the tube in which patients lie during the imaging procedure is larger than on standard machines. Wahl says, “It’s definitely roomier and because of that we are able to see a lot of claustrophobic patients.” Also, in about 60% of MRIs the patient’s head is outside the machine, but JOI has still taken time to improve the experience. The MRI suite itself has a wall of windows, creating an open feel, and a ceiling mural provides an artistic distraction for patients.

Appointments themselves are straightforward. Depending on the procedure, a technologist will call the day before and go over any prep or special instructions. Upon checking in, patients will fill out some paperwork in the comfortable waiting room. Technologists then escort patients to the imaging area. Some tests, such as X-rays, are very quick while others take a bit longer. When patients leave the office, they receive a disk of their images. The disk is a convenient way to provide their physician with images if follow up appointments are necessary. Referring physicians typically receive the radiologist’s report within 24-48 hours.

Patients do not need to be connected with a Jefferson doctor to use the imaging facility. JOI accepts most insurances, but some plans may require patients to go to a specific facility. The knowledgeable insurance specialists on staff will verify this information for patients.

The new facility in Malvern joins the Collegeville, East Norriton and Center City offices in the Jefferson family of imaging centers. It is located at 650 Carnegie Boulevard, Suite 240, Malvern, PA 19355, near Routes 202 and 30 in the Wegmans and Target shopping center. The building is wheel chair accessible and offers plenty of free on-site parking. To schedule either a day or evening appointment, call 215-503-4900.
