As part of the nation’s largest paint-and-sip franchise, Painting with a Twist in Jenkintown will participate in the company’s national fundraising event to celebrate and honor the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 26th through the company’s charitable event, Painting with a Purpose. An amazing 50% percent of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Young Audiences of Louisiana Charter School.

Painting with a Twist was born out of Hurricane Katrina, after local moms Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney provided a creative and fun outlet for their devastated community to escape from the stress of the storm. This passion for giving back continues to thrive throughout the franchise system with the monthly fundraiser Painting with a Purpose. Thanks to this program, each studio raises funds for various organizations in their communities and nearly $1.6 million total has been donated to local non-profit organizations.
In memory of the company’s founding, Painting with a Twist Jenkintown will host a national Painting with a Purpose event on Wednesday, August 26th from 6:30pm-8:30pm to benefit the Young Audiences of Louisiana Charter School. Started in 1962, The Young Audiences Charter School aims to inspire and empower children through an arts-integrated curriculum.
“We are proud to join this national Painting with a Purpose event benefitting the Young Audiences Charter School,” said local franchise owner Christine Trapaga. “It’s a great way to honor the roots of Painting with a Twist and remember the reason this industry was created.”
Guests can visit the Painting with a Twist Jenkintown schedule page at http://bit.ly/1Ln5DQK to sign up to attend the Hurricane Katrina Painting with a Purpose class for $35. A scene titled, Teacher’s Inspiration will be painted during this event.
At Painting with a Twist, guests come together to experience a unique ‘getaway’ that includes friends, paint and the option to BYOB. Led by local art instructors, guests paint on bare canvases using paint and brushes provided by the studio. There are more than 6,000 original pieces of copyrighted artwork, ranging from landscapes, abstracts and cityscapes, to creative renderings of animals, iconic buildings and florals, which have all been conceptualized and produced by Painting with a Twist art instructors.

The Young Audiences Charter School
Since 1962 the local non-profit organization Young Audiences of Louisiana has led the state of Louisiana in arts education and quality after-school programs. Our arts-integrated curriculum reflects recent research from the arts education field that provides significant evidence of the value of the arts in the learning process. Research shows that students highly involved in the arts are more likely to have improved grades, better standardized test scores, and lower dropout rates. Additionally, arts education develops valuable skills for the workplace such as creativity, organization and collaboration. Most importantly, the arts are a defining feature of culture; helping students to understand their own identities and providing a window into other historic and contemporary cultures.
Young Audiences has operated after-school programs throughout Jefferson Parish that promote academic excellence and social growth for over 40 years. External evaluations by the Louisiana Department of Education have shown that students enrolled in Young Audiences programs in Jefferson Parish schools outperformed their peers on standardized tests. In addition, students in these programs showed fewer disciplinary reports and increased school attendance.
Young Audiences of Louisiana is an affiliate of the National Young Audiences Arts for Learning Network, which includes 32 affiliates across the country. Young Audiences Charter School at Kate Middleton uses the best of our network’s proven curriculum to provide students with rigorous and engaging academic experiences. For more information.
