Hosted by Action Karate of North Wales, the Martial Arts for St. Jude will kick off on May 18th at 11 AM to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. The fundraising event will showcase martial arts skills and board breaking, along with fun family activities, while promoting the lifesaving mission of St. Jude. The event, which is open to the public, is free to attend and there will be several opportunities to donate to St. Jude’s at the event.
This is the first year that Action North Wales has held the Martial Arts for St. Jude program. The students and families have raised more than $4000 since February when they began fundraising for this event. “This fundraiser gives our students a chance to use their love of martial arts to help others,” said Mr. Current, head instructor at Action North Wales. “What better lesson can I teach my students than to help those in need? This event will bring our Action family together for an afternoon of karate, fun, and games all for a worthy cause. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No child is ever denied treatment because of a family’s inability to pay. With a daily operating cost of $1.7 million, St. Jude depends mostly on public contributions and fundraising events, like Martial Arts for St. Jude.

About St. Jude
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent when the institution opened to almost 80 percent today. It is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and no family ever pays St. Jude for care.
