McKinley Elementary School received the “Garden of Distinction Award” from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The McKinley Garden was selected from over 350 entries submitted in the Society’s 2017 Gardening and Greening Contest.
The Garden Committee at the school, led by the McKinley parents, devotes time and creativity to developing beautiful selections of flowering plants, shrubs, bushes, and vegetable plants positioned among bird feeders, a sundial, and a seating spot in the outdoor area between two classroom wings. At a Awards Reception in November, the school will receive a Horticultural Society sign for the garden area recognizing the award.
