Music can inspire, move you to tears, get you on your feet, allow you to escape, and bring people together. And this weekend, it can also help wishes come true. Students from La Salle College High School, Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Lansdale Catholic are coming together for a wonderful cause. The group is called Broadway Wishes, and they will be performing numbers from various musicals to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The production is completely student run with students learning and teaching the songs and choreography and doing all of the fundraising on their own. In addition to the Broadway Revue on May 17 and 18, the group has been fundraising for months with personal pages and events at local spots such as Rita’s Water Ice and California Pizza Kitchen. This year’s goal is $20,000, and you can help them reach it by purchasing tickets or donating to the cause.
The Broadway Wishes Story
Lauren Buben, a cancer survivor and beneficiary of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, founded Broadway Wishes in 2012. Lauren was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 3. Make-A-Wish granted her wish and allowed her to have a party in Cinderella’s Castle in Disney World. Years later, as a healthy high school student, Lauren was determined to give back to the foundation. As a result, Broadway Wishes was created! In its first year, Broadway Wishes raised over $10,000.
While Lauren is no longer a high school student, new students have carried on the tradition each year since. This year’s production team is Amanda Lamphere, Jack Kennedy, Grace Mascio, Daniela Diaz, and JV Fluehr. This year, they hope to raise $20,000, which will help grant two wishes.
