Conquer an Escape Room
These real-life adventure and puzzle games are increasingly popular and rooms are popping up everywhere. Work together to solve a series of puzzles to “unlock” the room before time runs out. Since several people are needed to solve each puzzle, this is a great idea for a double date or even for celebrating with a group of friends. Be sure to reserve your spot in advance.
Tip: Expedition Escape, 2019 Happening List Winner for Amusement, has locations in Montgomeryville and King of Prussia.
Paint a Masterpiece
Just about everyone has attended a canvas or wood painting party these days for a “Girls Night,” but what about for a date? Getting creative together is fun way to unwind while you show your artistic side.
Tip: Painting with a Twist is a repeat Winner/Finalist in several categories in the 2019 Happening List, including Best Date Night and Group Outing. The BYO painting venue offers several date night opportunities with special nights featuring “couple” paintings that you put together to form one larger painting.
Romance on the Rails
Take a train ride while dining in an historic rail car as you ride through the Secret Valley in Edwardian splendor on the Colebrookdale Railroad. Enjoy an hors d’oeuvres plate, dinner and dessert, chocolate and roses as well as complimentary champagne during the 2-hour evening trip.
Colebrookdale Railroad was a 2018 Happening List Finalist.
Relax and Unwind
In a world where almost everyone is busy, busy, busy, taking time to relax and pamper yourselves can be a wonderful way to spend a day with your special someone. Maybe try a a yoga class together or get a massage.
Tip: Eden Day Spa and Salon in Collegeville is a 2019 Happening List Finalist that offers couple massages in their designated Couples’ Suite for a memorable experience.
Go to the Movies
This might not seem like a novel idea, but there are ways to make a movie theater date unique! The Movie Tavern is Collegeville and The Ambler Theater were both voted Happening List Finalists for Best Date Night in 2019.
Tip: Ambler Theater is playing a special Valentine’s Day showing of the 1987 classic Moonstruck on Thursday, February 13.
Visit a Winery or Brewery
Montgomery County has several great wineries (as well as breweries and distilleries) where you can taste, make or learn how to pair your favorite drinks with any food. Take a tour, sign up for a tasting session or take a brewing or wine-making class together.
Tip: Cardinal Hollow Winery, a 2019 Happening List Finalist, is hosting a Valentine’s Day Dinner on Friday, February 14 featuring a multi-course menu prepared by Chef Kyle of Fry’s Catering.
Get Away
For many people, the only time you spend a night away from home is when you’re traveling or going to an event like a wedding. But there’s really something special about getting away from the daily routines of home life, even if you’re staying somewhere nearby. Treat yourself and your loved one to a night at a local bed and breakfast so you can really relax and enjoy each other’s company.
Tip: Joseph Ambler Inn, the 2019 Happening List Winner for Romantic Escape is offering room and food specials for Valentine’s Day Weekend.
