The Breastfeeding Resource Center has an exciting announcement that will change the way moms access breastfeeding support in the Philadelphia area.
The center, with offices in Abington and Wayne, is officially forming the BRC Community Counselors with help from the local Nursing Mothers Advisory Council.
The council, which will now solely exist under the BRC umbrella, a non-profit, volunteer organization serving Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties for more than 30 years. NMAC is comprised of a group of trained volunteer women who wish to help others have a positive nursing experience.
“This will allow us to better serve the moms in our community who want to succeed in their breastfeeding goals,” said Colette Acker, IBCLC and Executive Director of the BRC. “No one else is doing anything like this.”
The Breastfeeding Resource Center just celebrated its 15th anniversary of providing expert lactation consults and free community support groups. This move will combine two organizations that have served new moms and their babies regardless of income level or access to health care.
The announcement of the merger will be made during the BRC’s Facebook Live roundtable discussion on August 7 at 12 p.m. to close out World Breastfeeding Week. The BRC will also announce its Medical Advisory Committee, a group of pediatricians, OBGYNs and specialists dedicated to advising the staff at the center.
The BRC will now also serve as a milk depot for the Mid Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank, which screens and collects donated human milk and distributes it to medically vulnerable infants in need.
Finally, here is your chance to cover World Breastfeeding Week in person. The BRC will participate in the Global Big Latch On at special support group meetings Friday, August 3 at the Wayne and Abington offices.
Come and meet our nursing moms and babies and the staff that support them.
Global Big Latch On event takes place at registered locations around the world, where people gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other. Come at 10 a.m. and latch on at 10:30 a.m.
See you there!
