Celebrate Oktoberfest a little early this year on Saturday, September 10, from 11 am to 10 pm by visiting the Vereinigung Erzgebirge, a social and sports club in Warminster. Founded by German immigrants in 1931, the club has been hosting the annual celebration for 79 years. The day begins with an official keg tapping ceremony and plenty of food and beer will be available. Fun for the kids includes a moon bounce, face painting, soccer games and crafts. Musical performances by Willi Aust, The Philadelphia German Brass Band and other groups will take place throughout the day. Admission is $5.00 per person in advance or $7.00 at the door. Central Schwenkfelder Country Fair

An old-fashioned Country Fair with activities for the whole family will be held at Central. An annual event since 1951, the Fair is held on historic farm property which is adjacent to the church; located on Valley Forge Road (Rt. 363), just north of Skippack Pike (Rt.73). The Country Fair attracts more than 1,000 visitors each year and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit charities, both local and worldwide.

Join Union Cemetery of Whitemarsh at Saint Miriam for a classic All Hallow’s Eve flashlight tour that includes an exciting tour of our century grounds and a walk through the pumpkin patch. Experience the enchanting art and landscape of our cemetery grounds after dark, as an experienced tour guide leads you along winding, dimly-lit pathways and behind the graves of historic figures that include: Harvey Longabaugh, the brother of the Sundance Kid; Thomas May Peirce, founder of Peirce College; the Van Billiard Family who perished on the Titanic; and George Jago, a Civil War soldier as well as many other Civil and Revolutionary War veterans. The nighttime walking tours will focus on the cemetery’s rich history, and of course, some of the liveliest spirits buried within our hallowed grounds, after all, Union Cemetery is on the Haunted Places in Pennsylvania list! Tours will last approximately 30-45 minutes, and will be followed by seasonal refreshments aside blazing fire pits near our pumpkin patch.

Before the Halloween Parade and trick-or-treating get started, there’s a free family event that’s become a Main Line kid favorite – The Witches of Narberth! Halloween kicks off with this popular annual scavenger hunt. They collect treats along the way, and then return to the start to collect a Halloween prize. Costumes are optional, and we’ll give you a bag for treats. Scarecrow Making

Come to the park to make your fall scarecrow. We are having a contest to see who can make the scariest, the most original, and the best overall scarecrow. Bring the clothes you want to use, something to make a head with, and a hat for your creation. We will supply the straw. Meet at the park office. Ages: adults & children 5 & up; fee: $5 per scarecrow; preregistration required.
