It’s time to get in the Halloween spirit! With so many things to do in Montgomery County, you can celebrate every weekend of the month. Here’s a list of the area’s best events, some ongoing, and some that you’ll want to put on your calendar so you don’t miss them.

 

Month-Long Events: 

Fall Harvest Days at Merrymead Farm

When: Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 222 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA 19446

Merrymead is a working dairy farm with plenty of fall activities. Visit the apple shed for seasonal produce, cider and decorations. Take a hayride around the farm.  Little ones will enjoy the corn stalk tunnel, face painting, games and inflatables. The five-acre maze offers daytime or moonlight fun, so you’ll want to bring a flashlight if you’re visiting after dark. Visit the site for details, weekday hours and pricing.

Morris Arboretum Scarecrow Walk

When: October 5 – October 31, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 E. Northwestern Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118

Take a stroll along Oak Allée at the Morris Arboretum any day October 5 through Halloween to enjoy the more than 30 scarecrows lining the path. The display is part of the annual design contest with this year’s theme of  “Famous Musicians.” Come vote for your favorite. The Scarecrow Walk is free along with your paid admission to the arboretum.

Boo at the Zoo

When: Saturdays and Sundays in October, starting October 12 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401

Explore the Elmwood Park Zoo in costume, collect treats at stations throughout the zoo, and enter the costume contest! This event is free with zoo admission. The zoo itself is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Haunting of Elks Lodge #714

When: Friday and Saturday nights in October, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: 494 Ford Street, Bridgeport, PA 19405

The Elks Lodge #714 was built in 1900 and is currently run by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. During the month of October, the historic building is transformed into a uniquely scary experience. Visit on Friday or Saturday nights for a tour. Admission is $10.

Limited Date Events: 

Lighting of the Great Pumpkin at Merrymead Farm

When: Saturday, September 28 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: 2222 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale

Help Merrymead Farm kick-off their 36th Annual Merrymead Harvest Days with the lighting of their GIANT pumpkin! There will be live music performed by Steve Pullara at 6 and storytelling at 6:45. Please bring blankets for seating, no lawn chairs will be permitted.

Eerie Limited

When: Friday, October 4 or October 25 at 6:30 pm
Where: Colebrookdale Railroad, 64 S Washington St, Boyertown, PA 19512

Two-hour trip filled with stories that highlight Boyertown as “one of the most haunted small towns in America.” This evening train ride explores local hauntings, historic incidents, and amusing happenings along the rail line.

Boo Just For You

When: Friday, October 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401

This sneak preview of the regularly scheduled Boo at the Zoo event (which starts the next day) is specially geared for guets with special needs, and their families and caregivers. This is a great opportunity to experience and enjoy Boo at the Zoo in a more relaxed setting, perfect for those with sensory sensitivity. Kids can walk the zoo and participate in treat stations, animal meet-and-greets, and more! The animal care staff will start to close down for the evening during this time, so kids can also get a firsthand look at what happens with the animals each night.

Full Moon Hayride & Fall Fest

When: Friday, October 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust, 2955 Edge Hill Road, Huntingdon Valley

Back for its second year, this fall festival features live music, guided trail walks, s’mores and more! There will be beer by Crooked Eye Brewery in Hatboro and bratwurst and hotdogs available for purchase. The first hayride starts at 5 p.m. They will run until 8 p.m. and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Narberth Scavenger Hunt

When: Saturday, October 12, 5:30 pm check-in, Hunt begins at 7 pm
Where: beginning behind Greeks Next Door – 237 Haverford Ave, Narberth, PA 19072

Team scavenger hunt for adults through the community of Narberth, complete with Viking helmets, a phone app and karaoke. Register online here by October 7. Cost is $25 per person. Expected to sell out, so register early!

Witches & Wizards Festival

When: Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19
Where: Germantown Ave., Chestnut Hill, PA 19118

Formerly known as the Harry Potter Festival, this event will include a ticketed pub crawl on Friday night, extended hours at local businesses with sales/specials. Saturday’s events include costumed actors on the streets, a wizarding run, a quidditch tournament,  an haunted escape room, fire breathing, face painting, a dark magic scavenger hunt and more Halloween delights on the Hill.  Check the website for complete programming and ticket information.

Skippack Village Children’s Halloween Parade

When: Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Rain date is October 27)
Where: Parade begins at Trinity Christian UCC, 2009 Church Road, Skippack, PA 19474

The parade begins at Trinity Christian UCC in Skippack with beverages and kid-friendly snacks.  Follow the parade route through the village and enjoy treats along the way from participating Skippack merchants.  The parade ends at Floral & Hardy with even more candy! Feel free to stay for Floral & Hardy’s Family Day festivities after the parade. To participate in the parade, register online here.

All Hallow’s Eve Fall Festival

When: Saturday, October 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Pennypacker Mills, 5 Haldeman Rd., Schwenksville, PA 19473

Have some old-fashioned fun painting pumpkins, making kid-themed fall crafts, taking hayrides, playing bean bag toss, cracking corn, pressing apples to make cider, and jumping in the hay!

Zombie Hunter Train

When: Tuesday, October 22 or October 29 at 7:15 p.m.
Where: Colebrookdale Railroad, 64 S Washington St, Boyertown, PA 19512

Rid the Zombie Camp along the rail line using Blaster Packs provided by Laser Quest. Trains are limited to 50 hunters. Must be 12 or over to participate.

Trunk or Treat at Limerick Community Park

When: Saturday, October 26 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Limerick Community Park, 180 Swamp Pike, Royersford, PA 19468

Limerick Township Parks and Recreation will host a fun trick-or-treating event with local businesses and organizations.

Howloween 5K & Dog Walk

When: Saturday, October 26 from 7:30 am to 1 pm
Where: 1 Parkside Place Park, North Wales, PA 19454

This event benefits Home at Last Dog Rescue. It includes a 5K and 1-mile dog walk, pet/fitness related vendors, food trucks, dog activities and a costume contest. Dogs are welcome to attend all events.

The Witches of Narberth

When: Saturday, October 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: The corner of Forrest and Haverford Avenues, Narberth, PA 19072

Get ready to meet 13 of the scariest witches ever in Narberth during “The Witches of Narberth,” an annual community scavenger hunt. This free event begins at the corner of Forrest and Haverford Aves. and continues throughout the town. Find a witch and collect a Halloween treat. Finally, return to the start after finding all 13 to receive a special prize. Costumes are welcome! The hunt runs until 4 p.m. or when prizes run out.
