Biking is a popular outdoor recreation and there is always some fun event scheduled for the bike enthusiast in Montgomery County. Before summer ends take a relaxing ride on one of the county’s many trails or join an exhilarating race in a local community. Check out the opportunities below.

Perk to Pub

Enjoy a ride along the Perkiomen Creek on Sat., Aug 26 during the annual Perk to Pub ride. Start at the Deep Creek/Snyder Road Parking area in Green Lane Park and ride 13 miles along the scenic trail while enjoying views of the creek and surrounding woodland. The ride concludes at the Appalachian Brewing Company in Collegeville situated right along the trail. Registration cost for the ride includes a 24 oz. Polar water bottle and one drink ticket for the bar as well as access to the open hors d’oevres bar from 11am to 1 pm. Proceeds from the event benefit the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy.

Riders are welcome to arrange their own round-trip transportation for their bikes and car or take advantage of the free shuttle service from ABC in Collegeville to the start point in the morning. Check the Conservancy website for detailed options. Bike rentals are also available and can be reserved on the online registration form. Cost for the event is $30 for Conservancy Members and $45 for non-members. 

Bike Races

If you enjoy the thrill of a crowd cheering you on while racing to the finish, competing for cash prizes and celebratory food and drink then one of these local bike races is the place to be. Both races are on closed courses in towns known for their shopping and dining experiences. Race day events include opportunities for amateurs, professionals, men, women and kids. Check the websites for a race near you – whether riding or watching – there is plenty of activity for everyone.

Ambler Bike Race – Aug 19th

This 5-corner loop (1.05 mile) race starts and finishes on Butler Pike between the Lucky Well and the Ambler Theater. Registration can be completed online or on race day for an additional fee if slots are still available. Free parking is available for racers and spectators at the SEPTA train station located at 105 S. Main St., Ambler. The Cavalier St. parking area will host the event’s beer garden featuring Forest & Main Brewery & Pub of Ambler and Weyerbacher Brewery from Easton, PA. Great food can be found everywhere, but especially from event sponsor, The Lucky Well, who will be serving their famous Memphis-style ribs, brisket, smoked wings and side dishes.

Main Line Bike Race – Aug. 20th

Join the Main Line community as they support the local Narberth Ambulance for their first annual bike race fundraiser. The one-mile closed loop course is situated in the heart of the Ardmore business district including a stretch of Lancaster Ave. Several community races for kids will be available as well as a food donation drive that will benefit local non-profits. Adults compete for cash prizes. Register online by Fri., Aug. 18th
