Are you feeling sluggish after all the holiday shopping and party festivities of December? This month is a great time to enjoy the beautiful winter landscapes in Montgomery County and get revitalized with an outdoor activity in the brisk winter air. Montgomery parks are offering several walks and classes to inspire you to get out and move.

Perkiomen Trail Hike – Green Lane Park
Green Lane, PA 18054
215-234-4528

Get “Out and About” on the Perkiomen Trail for a brisk winter walk on Sat. Jan. 21 at 10 am.

Participants will investigate plant life, animal sounds and signs, and anything else that pops up. Dress warmly and in appropriate foot wear as winter conditions can be unpredictable and leave muddy or slushy trails. Meet at the trailhead parking lot off Crusher Road, just south of Green Lane Borough. The hike is free and open to anyone 8 years old and over. Pre-registration is required.

Cross-Country Ski Clinic – Norristown Farm Park
2500 Upper Farm Rd., Norristown, PA 19403
610-270-0215

Montgomery County has many great spaces in which to enjoy cross country skiing. This clinic on Sun., Jan. 22 at 10 am will provide you with lots of information on this great winter activity. Learn about ski technique, equipment, clubs, and places to ski. On-snow instruction is available if conditions permit, but the class will take place even if there is no snow on the ground. Learn to glide longer and stronger. Bring your own skis. The program is free for everyone 8 years and older but pre-registration is required. Meet in the salt wing of the barn.

Snowshoe Demonstration – Peace Valley Nature Center
170 Chapman Rd., Doylestown, PA 18901
(215) 345-7860

Interested in hiking or walking in the snow? Learn how to snowshoe at this free demonstration on Sat., Jan. 7 from 10 – 11:30 am. L.L. Bean will be on site to show how it’s done.

For something a bit more low key, try one of the Winter Naturalist Walks at the park on any Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 pm during January. A park naturalist will guide you through the trails and point out lots of activity taking place along the way, despite the cold. Hikes are free, but will be cancelled if weather or trail conditions are unfavorable. Call the park with any questions.
