The heat is on this summer! Sure, you could spend your summer inside with the AC cranked. But why would you want to miss all the summer fun! Instead, we put together a list of some of our favorite ways to beat the heat in & around MontCo.
1. Enjoy a Splash Park:
Hopefully you’re lucky enough to live in an area with a local community splash park which is a great place for the little ones in the family to cool off in the summer heat. Abington, Montgomery and Upper Moreland Townships all have Wading Pool/Splash Pad options that are open daily. If you’re not a resident tag along with a friend who is local.
2. Cool off Creekside:
While the rain seems to have slowed down, the creek levels are dropping in the Perkiomen Creek. Take advantage of the smoother waters and cool off with a kayak or canoe outing at Green Lane Park. Boat rentals are available daily until 7 pm. Have your own canoe? Head to the creek.
Another option is a trip down the Schuylkill River and Canal located between Mont Clare and Port Providence. You can get outfitted for the five mile paddling route at Port Providence Paddle located just behind the Fitzwater Station restaurant.
3. Take the Fun Indoors:
Do something fun with family and friends in the comfort of indoor air conditioning. Spend hours playing at Arnold’s Family Fun Center in Oaks or let the kids spend all their energy at BounceU of Horsham. MontCo’s many Escape Room favorites and Happening List winners are geared up with challenging fun. Try Expedition Escape of Montgomeryville or King of Prussia, Play it Out Escape Room in Souderton or Escape Room Mystery in K of P.
4. Enjoy a Cool Matinee:
Take in a classic movie in the grandeur of some of MontCo’s old-fashioned theaters. Catch the new Lion King movie for only $4 at The Grand Theater in East Greenville or at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville. Be sure to check out the larger chain theaters for summer kids’ movie specials too.
5. Indulge in an Ice Cream Treat:
While there are plenty of chain ice cream shops in the area, be sure to try out the special, privately own stores throughout the county for truly great ice cream. You’ll find some of the best hand-dipped cones at Nelson’s Ice Cream in Royersford, Coventry Parlor at Laurel Locks outside Pottstown and at Merrymead Farm in Lansdale.
6. Cool off Underground:
Ready for a quick road trip? Cool off underground at nearby Crystal Cave in Kutztown. The temperature in the cave is a constant 54 degrees, so you might even need a jacket! Enjoy a movie and tour of the stalagmite and stalactite formations. Then finish off the day with a round of mini-golf and a trip to the ice cream shop.
7. Take to the Skies:
Get a cool breeze flowing through your hair as you experience skydiving! Get trained and make a tandem jump with an experienced instructor at Sky Dive Philadelphia located near the Pennridge Airport in Perkasie.
Prefer flying instead of falling? Try a tamer experience at IFly Indoor Skydiving in King of Prussia. Each experience will get you two flights in the vertical air tunnel under the direction of a trained instructor. This experience is suitable for anyone over the age of 3.
8. Venture into the Night:
For some, it just may be best to stay inside during the long hot days. But once the sun goes down, venture out and cool off with friends at a Happening Night spot. Our 2019 Happening List winners are ready for you with live entertainment, great food and cool drinks. Try out Tom’s Bar and Grill in Royersford for best live music venue, Creekside Sports Bar in Limerick for Outdoor Dining or Tex Mex Connection in North Wales for a killer margarita.
