Calling all dog lovers to Green Lane Park! Join in on the fun and learning during the 15th annual dog walk and education event hosted by John DeBella and the staff at WMGK on Sat. May 6 from 11 am to 3 pm. The event’s purpose is to educate current and future dog owners about dog health, training, care products, and specific breeds. It also highlights the work of rescue groups and shelters throughout the region.

Dozens of vendors will be on site to talk about their products and training classes for dogs. The Abington Police Department’s K9 unit will talk about the work of their canine helpers and the K9 Jym staff will present a fly ball and dog agility demonstration. Jenn Green of Tail Waggers Academy, a training school in Newtown, will answer dog obedience training questions and talk about their programs. And for the sporting enthusiasts, Hilltown Dog Training Club will demonstrate lure coursing, a sport where dogs chase a mechanically operated lure.

Dog owners can take advantage of many other fun activities with their pets. Snap a picture in the WMGK Charity Photo Booth or get a picture of your dog in the ‘Dogs Playing Poker’ or ‘Abbey Road’ album cover scenes. Join in the fun and games with the longest kiss between owner & dog contest, Simon Says contest or participate in Musical Hoops. Also, the winner of the Mayor of Dogville Contest will be announced during the event. Hundreds of dog owners have submitted photos of their pets to the WMGK staff and John DeBella and his staff have picked their top 5 favorites and online votes determined the winner.

Many rescue groups and shelters will also be on hand to raise funds for their organizations as well as provide information to prospective owners on adoption. Several shelters focus on specific breeds including Boxers, Labs, Pugs, Siberian Huskies, German Shorthaired Pointers, Rottweilers, Greyhounds, Yorkies, and German Shepherds. Many other breeds and “mutts” are represented at a variety of other rescues and shelters, including the Montgomery County SPCA.

Food vendors will be on site as well as the Doylestown Brewing Company with an all new Beer Garden. The event is free for everyone. Dogs are welcome, but must be controlled at all times on a leash no longer than 6 feet and up-to-date on all required vaccinations. Entrance to the event is at Green Lane Park, 2298 Green Lane Rd., Green Lane, PA 18054. Visit the WMGK website for a listing of all the vendors and activities.
