The end of the year is fast approaching, but there is always lots to do in Montgomery County. Before the holiday season gets too hectic enjoy some time locally at one or more of these community events taking place during the first two weeks in December.
Holiday Theater
Byers Choice – A Christmas Carol

Byer’s Choice is hosting a presentation of the classic Dickens’ holiday tale as told by Gerald Charles Dickens, the famous author’s great-great grandson. In this one-man show, Mr. Dickens takes the role of twenty-six different characters to recount the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly Christmas visitors. The performance is on Sat., Dec. 10 at 1 pm. and tickets may be purchased in advance at https://www.byerschoice.com/store/events/a-christmas-carol-sat-dec-10th-1pm.html. The 75 minute presentation is not recommended for children under age 8. Byer’s Choice is a local business that handcrafts Christmas caroler figurines.
DCP Theater – The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Dutch Country Players will present the classic production of Barbara Robinson’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever weekends from Dec 2 – Dec 11. The town’s annual Christmas Pageant has become boring, but when the key roles are given to the Herdman kids, an unruly bunch who have never even heard the Christmas story, the play becomes rather unconventional – but perhaps the most touching ever. Narberth – Dickens Festival

Travel back to 1840s London and experience this Dickens-themed festival as Ebenezer Scrooge and other costumed characters from A Christmas Carol roam the streets during Narberth’s annual holiday festival. Enjoy period-authentic vendors and street food, magicians, carolers, puppet shows, free outdoor dance performances and more. A scavenger hunt for children runs from 1-3 pm and kids can hunt through the streets collecting wooden coins in their tin cups.
Chestnut Hill – Sugarplum Saturday

Gather family and friends, bundle up and enjoy Chestnut Hill’s annual holiday parade on the Avenue at 9 am to kick off Sugarplum Saturday. Afterward, stroll the shopping district and participate in the many activities in town. Look for Santa’s elves and even the Big Man himself. Decorate a cookie, join a gingerbread house workshop or take the kids to hear a story or make a craft.
Lock 60 at Schuylkill Canal Park – Holiday Luminaria

Bask in the glow of hundreds of luminary lamps as the canal at Lock 60 at the Schuylkill Canal Park light the waterway on Sat., Dec 10 from 6-9 pm. Warm up at the Locktender’s House and enjoy hot cider, treats and holiday music. Santa will visit with little ones from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. A $1 donation per person is appreciated. Glencairn Museum – Homeschool Days

Homeschool families or groups are invited to participate in Glencairn Museum’s holiday Homeschool Day event on Tues., Dec. 6 and Thurs., Dec. 8. from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Participants can enjoy exclusive access to this season’s exhibitions, World Nativities and Christmas in Pennsylvania. Students can learn about the art and history of the crèche, complete an exhibition-based quest to win a prize and participate in other hands-on activities. The admission price is $5 per person, which is a reduced fee for this special event. No reservations are necessary. SunnyBrook Ballroom – Christmas Beach Ball

You’ve heard of Christmas in July – now it’s time for summer fun in December. The Christmas Beach Ball, held on Sun., Dec. 11 from 12pm to 4pm at the Sunny Brook Ballroom in Pottstown is a great way to give to others this holiday season. The event, sponsored by Beachview Dreams, raises money annually to provide individuals with disabilities or significant health issues the opportunity to take a beach vacation with their families. Enjoy a “picnic on the beach” lunch, games, raffles, elf games and crafts or shopping at the huge vendor area. Kids will love the Video Game Truck, face painting and a photo with Santa.
