Autism Awareness Month Artwork Display Paintings by Young Artists with Autism at MilkBoy

April’s Autism Awareness Month brings a hopeful spring time feel, as well as varying artistic perspectives and talents on display at MilkBoy Coffee in Ardmore, PA. For the third consecutive year, personal creations of nearly a dozen Melmark students are highlighted at this community-rooted venue, all featuring varying individual perspectives, intuitions, and artistic voices.

Some students paint with brushes while others use their hands, specially designed application tools for artists with disabilities and even bubble-wrap. melmarkWhatever the method, the pieces all have something in common – they’re beautifully created works of art that show each student’s individual personality.

For example, Davie’s preferred medium is paint, and his favorite method of application is his hands. This young artist loves to get messy in the Art Room and, while non-verbal, is able to communicate freely on canvas. Davie is a student at The Melmark School and is one of the artists featured in the Melmark Traveling Art Show.

“We are honored to have The Melmark Traveling Art Show back at MilkBoy for a third year,” said Joanne Gillis-Donovan, Ph.D., Melmark’s President and CEO. “Our students are very talented, and here at Melmark, our mission is to showcase their abilities instead of their disabilities. MilkBoy’s support of their work truly shows its commitment to the community.”
