Valley Forge is the place where George Washington and the Continental Army took refuge during the winter of 1777-1778. Today the park protects 3,500 acres of meadows, woodlands, historic landscapes, and monuments commemorating the resolve of the Revolutionary War generation and honoring the power of people to pull together, overcome adversity, and find renewal through transformation. While visiting, you can tour the encampment either by trolley, bicycle, running or walking.

The story behind Normandy Farm Hotel tells of a time of horse drawn carriages, farming methods in the 17-1800’s, tavern food and lodging, and the hobbies and amusements common to a gentleman’s estate. Pennypacker Mills is a well documented historic site of what life was like in the early 1900s. With a unique original collection, the mansion is fully furnished with antiques collected and documented by former Pennsylvania Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker reflecting his interests in early Pennsylvania history, German and Dutch settlers, Native Americans, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

Norristown Farm Park has a variety of buildings and open fields that represent a diverse history of farming, manufacturing and institutional associations. The buildings date from the mid-18th century through the early 20th century and at various times were part of mills, a tannery, farms and the Norristown State Hospital. Guests can enjoy bicycling, walking, hiking, jogging, picnics, fishing, and viewing wildlife in their natural habitats.

Green Lane Park offers a variety of year-round, outdoor activities and programs. Evansburg State Park is in southcentral Montgomery County between Norristown and Collegeville. Evansburg offers a significant area of green space and many people come to the open play fields, picnic areas, trails, golf course, and the relatively tranquil, natural environment.
