When you think wine, does your mind immediately go to the Napa Valley or the Finger Lakes? Why not start thinking Montgomery County and its four wineries that offer samplings, tours and special events for local wine lovers.

California and New York are the top two wine producers in the country, but Pennsylvania wineries produced the fourth highest amount of wine in the nation during 2014, over 10 million gallons. Although the county’s wine trail is small, it includes four area wineries where visitors can sample and purchase over 30 varieties of wine including reserve red, hybrid whites, meads, ciders, dessert wines and port. Check out these trail stops below for special features and events offered by each winery.

Cardinal Hollow Winery

Visit Cardinal Hollow at their main store or find their products at one of four surrounding venues or while shopping at your local Farmer’s Market in Lansdale, Ambler or Spring Mill. The winery features over 30 wines including reds, whites, fruit wine, two varieties of mead and two ports. They also have a Silver Medal winner, the Jalapeno Wine, made from 100% jalapeno peppers. Country Creek Winery

Country Creek Winery is a family owned and operated business located in an old dairy barn along the Perkiomen Creek. Fourteen wines are all produced and bottled on the premises. Wines and gift items from the shop can easily be incorporated into special gift baskets made to order. Stone & Key Cellars

Here is your chance to make your own wine at a state of the art commercial wine making facility. Stone & Key Cellars not only produces and sells its own line of red, white and fruit wines, but patrons have the opportunity to make and bottle their own wine. Wine production packages include an informational session, crushing grapes, pressing the wine, blending flavors and bottling the finished product. Gather some friends or purchase a wine kit for making smaller amounts. The cellar also holds special events like Cabaret Merlot with live music and Trivia nights. The winery is available for private parties and special events and hosts several of their own. Stop by on a weekend afternoon to listen to live music.
