ALL WEEK/WEEKEND LONG
17th annual Schuylkill River Sojourn
The Schuylkill River Sojourn is an annual 112-mile guided canoe/kayak trip on the Schuylkill River that begins in rural Schuylkill Haven and ends seven days later in Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row. Participants paddle 14-18 miles per day and can register for the entire trip or as little as one day. Sometimes it is wetand wild. At other times it is peaceful and inspiring. There are a few rapids, calm water, plenty of laughs, songs at the campsites, and celebrations in the river towns. There is a little bit of everything for paddlers throughout the week-long sojourn that begins the first weekend of June. And though the same route is paddled every year, a different river greets us every June. Read our blog posts from 2013 & 2014:

Meet the Nowaks! Buffalo, NY’s East Side may be depressed, but not Clara, the Nowak family matriarch. She happily runs her soup kitchen and tends to the family heirloom – a twenty-foot shrine to the Blessed Mother which adjoins the house. This neighborhood beacon of faith commemorates the day in 1942 when the Blessed Virgin Mary materialized in her father’s barbershop! When daughter Ruth divulges her plan to share the family miracle by creating a one-woman play about the sacred event, the entire family’s faith is shaken to the very core by a deathbed confession that causes the family legend to unravel. This touching production directed by Patrick Gallagher (The Battle of Shallowford) stars Jan Thompson (The Last Romance, Unnecessary Farce) as Clara, Camille Eustice (Being of Sound Mind) as Ruth, David Williams (The Last Romance, Oliver!) as Jimmy, and Heidi Murphy (in her DCP debut) as Beverly.
Performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm; Sundays at 2 pm May 29 to June 7 with opening weekend director’s wine receptions May 29 and 30. Closing weekend performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday June 11 – 13 at 8 pm with champagne on June 11.
