Football is back! The NFL regular season gets underway in a little over 1 week! Time for another season full of high expectations, anxiety, fun, and big-time rivalries. Andrew and I had a live fantasy football draft last Friday. It was a lot of fun. A bunch of us high school friends got together, which doesn’t happen often enough these days with weddings, babies, and all that fun stuff! For me, it’s always extra special getting together with my hometown buddies. Why? Well because I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan who lives in Montgomery County, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia, PA, which is home to the Philadelphia Eagles.
I’ve been to quite a few Cowboys away games in my life. When I was younger I was niave enough to think wearing a Cowboys jersey to away games at New England, Washington, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia would be a good idea. Well, it wasn’t. Ha. I’ve had eggs thrown at me in Pittsburgh. Beer dumped on me in Philadelphia. LOL. Needless to say, I’m much wiser in my older years. Although I still love to go see the Cowboys play whenever possible, I no longer wear my Cowboys jersey…
Even though I have stayed away from getting hit with things from strangers, I can’t seem to stay away from the torment from my friends. My buddies absolutely love to give me a hard time about being a Dallas Cowboys fan. I guess it’s a defense mechanism from all of those years of disappointment here in Philadelphia 😉 lol, did I just say that?! ANYWAY, yeah, it’s tough being a Cowboys fan in Montgomery County.
Some of the comments I get most often from my buddies are:
- 6-10
- Hey, how are the Cowgirls doing this year?
- How many playoff wins does Romo have?
- 3rd and 1 — Emmitt Stopped AGAIN!
- 44-6…
- Roy Williams… LOL!
So yeah, my buddies absolutely love to get on me for being a Cowboys fan. It’s actually kind of funny. I think I take it in stride as I understand the hatred between the two teams. Philadelphia is a big-time sports city and they absolutely love their Eagles. I like to talk trash too. I mean, come on Eagles fans, what do you have to say about:
- The fact that you’ve won nothing… EVER. LOL.
- 4 straight NFC Championship games…
- Thank god you got rid of “throw it at my WR’s feet McNabb”, but now you’re paying “I get crushed every 3rd play Vick” crazy money… Good luck with that!
- Hey Andy, looking good buddy. Have you been working out with the team? How are your sons doing? … Ok sorry, that was a cheap shot.
Ok Ok, that’s enough. I’m sure I’m going to incite a few crazed Eagles fans out there. Just know it’s all love. I’m just as pumped for this season as you guys. It should be exciting. I think the Eagles have a great team and the Cowboys are a little underrated right now. It should make for some fireworks come their head-to-head match-ups. Good luck. Hey, maybe this is your year?
