Students Received Cash Awards and the Attorney General Hosted a Pizza Party for Entire Ninth-Grade to Celebrate!
The Office of Attorney General’s Education and Outreach Unit challenged ninth-graders across the entire Commonwealth to create a short video Public Service Announcement (PSA) containing an antidrug message that would appeal to their peers.
The Abington Junior High School team of Isabella DiPasquale, Emily Gill, Margaret Hanley and Alicia Whisman led by teacher Ms. Beth Nord placed first out of more than 30 entries submitted to the office.
Last week the Attorney General presented the award to the students and recognized Ms. Nord at the auditorium at Abington Senior High School. In addition, a presentation from the Education and Outreach Unit covered the dangers of illicit drug use.
Afterward, a pizza party was offered for the entire 9th -grade freshmen class back at Abington Junior High School.
Among the dignitaries attending the special presentation and program were Pa. Attorney General Bruce Beemer, Abington School Superintendent Dr. Amy Sichel, Abington Junior High School Principal Dr. Mark Pellico, Pa. State Representative Madeleine Dean, Pa. State Senator Art Haywood, Abington Police Chief William Kelly, Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood, and Montgomery County Commissioner Dr. Valerie Arkoosh.
At its most recent School Board meeting, the Abington School District School Board honored the students and teacher and their award-winning PSA was shown.
