If you’ve ever skimmed through photos on Montco Happening’s Facebook page, it won’t take you long to realize that we are enormous animal lovers. I mean….the MH mascot is our 13 year old Beagle! Whether big or small, cat or dog, we wouldn’t be the same without our pets and we know the residents of Montco feel the same exact way!!! Sadly though, we found it difficult to find a collective source of information on dogs and cats that are in need of good homes in Montgomery County.

In order to help simplify your search for a new best friend, or friends…..we put together a complete guide of local rescues and pet adoption locations in and around our area. We want to help support Montgomery County’s local animal organizations, foster parents, rescues, and above all, to help find some very deserving dogs their forever home. Please help share this article with friends and family because even if you’re not in the market for a new furry friend, someone you know may be!

Home At Last Dog
The Home At Last Dog Rescue of North Wales has made it their mission to save the lives of homeless/helpless dogs by pulling them from shelters and offering them foster families until they find their much deserved, “forever home”. They provide a necessary alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of such dogs. The group of caring volunteers at Home At Last Dog Rescue are dedicated to matching each pup with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home. They are a group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters, as well as owner-surrender dogs who need to be re-homed due to unfortunate circumstances. This not a shelter, and that’s exactly why Montco Happening supports them! In fact, they pull dogs from other various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. Wags Rescue & Referral
Wags Rescue & Referral is a small group of volunteers from Bucks County, Philadelphia and Montgomery County that started this rescue to help place dogs affected by Hurricane Katrina in loving and safe homes. Wags continues to work with a shelter down south to find loving families for their dogs. They also help save dogs from gassing shelters in the south and bring them to foster homes in Pennsylvania until they can find them a forever family.
