The Village Tavern will be hosting the 5th annual St. Patty’s Day 5k Shock Run/Walk to raise money to donate difibrillators to groups, organizations, companies or individuals that are in need of an AED in Montgomery County. The Red Cross states that sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of 5k shock rundeath in the United States. It can happen to anyone of any age. An AED is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular rhythmn during a sudden cardiac arrest and is an easy tool to operate for someone without any medical background. For each minute defibrillation is delayed the chance of survival is reduced by around 10 percent. So a little bit of running/walking will go a long way to say the least, it could possible help save a life!!!

MORE INFO
Each year about 1.1 million people in the United States have heart attacks, of which almost half of these people die. Coronary Artery Disease, which often results in heart attacks, is the leading killer of both men and women in the US. Many people could recover from heart attacks if they could get help faster. Of the people who do die from heart attacks, about half of them pass within an hour of their first symptoms, and sadly, before they reach the hospital. However, when defibrillators are used after symptoms occur, they have been known to save many lives. The St. Patty’s Day 5k “Shock Run” was created to help get these life saving devices to the people in our community who would benefit most from having one. Please consider running, or walking in this years “Shock Run” to help support the Village Tavern’s goal of placing defibrillators in much needed places within Montco.

Village Tavern #1
The Village Tavern ask’s that you submit a letter to villagetavernpa@gmail.com to explain why you need an AED. The Montgomery Township Business Group reads and evaluates each letter and from there makes a decision as to where these devices will be allocated. In the past, they have given AED’s to the North Penn Boys and Girls Club, a Senior Center in Harleysville, Horsham Little League and a Charter School.

*Last but not least, the race will end with a breakfast and a cold beer! All proceeds benefit a local home, company or organization in need of a defibrillator.
