As we roll along right into August, the Montgomery County activity scene is still hot. Being the first week of the month, there are a number of First Fridays and even a First Thursday happening this week in MontCo. For those who have already caught Eagles Fever this year, we suggest taking a trip to see the new team at Training Camp (see Eagles 2011 Training Camp and Autograph Schedule). If you’re planning on staying local, visit the MontCo Happening Calendar for a complete list of the events going on around town.
The “First” Events (Ambler, Skippack, Hatboro) – The weekend kicks off today with Ambler’s First Thursday event. The following day, both Skippack and Hatboro hold their First Friday events. Visitors to these towns will find a variety of special events, including merchant discounts, extended shopping hours, and entertainment. Please also see our previous article on Skippack’s First Fridays.
Musikfest– Although Musikfest doesn’t take place within Montgomery County, the drive isn’t too bad, and is well worth it for an event of this magnitude. For those who have never heard of Musikfest, it’s an annual 10 day festival held in down-town Bethlehem. The festival literally takes over the town and includes many big time music acts, all types of food, and plenty of fun. This year some of the more notable bands performing include Stone Temple Pilots, Maroon 5, Steve Miller Band, Steely Dan, and many more.
Living History Sundays (Pottstown) – Curious how they did things the old fashioned way? “Pottsgrove Manor’s living history volunteers will demonstrate 18th century trades, crafts, and pastimes. You may even get to join in! Activities will vary from week to week; call the site to find out what will be offered the day of your visit.” For driving directions and more info on Pottsgrove manor, please visit their website.
Lower Providence 5K Run/Walk (Eagleville) – The Lower Providence 5K in memory of Marc J. Small will begin at 8:30AM this Saturday at the Lower Providence Fire Department located at 199 Ridge Pike, Eagleville, PA. Registration beings at 7:30AM and all proceeds will be donated to “Small Steps in Speech,” a foundation supporting children with communicative disorders. Please visit the event website for further details.
Ambler 15th Annual Dog Days of Summer – A great event for family with children or dog lovers, the Ambler Dog Days of Summer parade/competition begins this Saturday at 10AM starting on Butler Avenue and ends on North Main Street in front of Rosey’s.
