The R.J. Leonard Foundation (RJLF) is celebrating 10 years of mentoring adults aged out of foster care. To commemorate the event, RJLF is hosting the Heart for Change celebration on Friday, October 19. This event is open to the public with proceeds directly supporting RJLF’s “Fellows” through scholarships and mentorship.
The Event
When: Friday, October 19 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Cedarbrook Country Club, 180 Penllyn Pike, Blue Bell
The theme for the celebration will circle around traditional experiences that youth in foster care do not often experience: an Eagles game, a trip to Longwood Gardens, a night out to the movies, or a day at the museum. Guests can bid for these experiences while enjoying live music by the Josh Squared Band. In addition, there will be small bites and bar. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased here.
Foster Care Facts
In most states, the transition from foster care to the “real world” is abrupt. When a foster youth turns 18, they “age out” of the system and are left to shoulder all of the responsibilities of an adult. Often, they are unprepared, which can lead to dire consequences.
- 3% of foster care youth have a college degree
- 40% of those who spent time in foster care have been homeless
- 75% of women and 33% of men who have been in foster care receive government benefits to meet basic needs

About the R.J. Leonard Foundation
The R.J. Leonard Foundation (RJLF) educates and initiates the careers of young adults transitioning out of the foster care system in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. 1,100 PA youth “age out” of the foster care system at 18 or older, according to the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association. Often left on their own, RJLF provides each adult with a mentor and individualized scholarship to furthering their education, their career, and increase their chance of launching from the system.
The R.J. Leonard Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that educates, mentors, and initiates the careers of young adults aging out of the foster care system. An R.J. Leonard Foundation Fellow is a young adult who is currently in or whom has been in foster care and is awarded an individualized Fellowship by exhibiting a proven interest in furthering their education and/or career.
