A community event for families and people of all ages; runners of course, but also walkers, families and even dog owners too. The 5th Annual ‘On Your Marc’ 5k was created to honor the legacy and memory of Marc Small, a local hero, beloved brother and son. Now in it’s 5th year, this event has grown into a fun and moving tribute to all of our military personnel and public servants. Something very special is planned to mark the 5th anniversary of the “On Your Marc” 5K event. This year, participants will be invited to run or walk in honor of a fallen hero, be it a serviceman or woman, police officer, firefighter or first responder. The run will be held Saturday, Aug.3, starting and finishing at the Lower Providence Fire Company at 3199 Ridge Pike, Eagleville. Participants can choose to run in memory of a loved one or choose a local hero prior to the race. Names of the fallen heroes will be displayed on the numbers worn by the racers.
“On Your Marc” was founded by Lower Providence Township residents Mary and Megan MacFarland. Mary’s son and Megan’s brother, Marc Small, was killed
in action on February 12, 2009 in Afghanistan. Marc served as a Special Forces Medic with the U.S. Army. The event was established to preserve Marc’s memory, as well as to benefit those he loved and volunteered to protect. The race benefits “Small Steps in Speech,” a foundation created by Marc’s fiancée Amanda Charney to assist children with communicative disorders. Look for lots of new additions to this years race! There will be finish line results and times will be posted online at www.pretzelcitysports.com. Early check-in will be held Friday, August 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lower Providence firehouse. Race day check- in will begin at 7:30 a.m. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 8:35 a.m. A Family Discount Rate ($20 per person for four or more family members) and Doggie Registrations ($15 includes doggie bandana) are available.

We are not only running in honor and memory of Marc, but also all the fallen heroes from our area. Names of the fallen heroes will be displayed on a bib worn by the runners and walkers, great way to honor and recognize your hero!

*In addition, participants are encouraged to dress up in red, white and blue (from hats to face paint) to promote the patriotic theme and compete for an abundant amount of attention, and of course a prize!

Course Description: An accurate, measured 5K course starting at the Lower Providence Fire Department continuing through Eagleville Park and Lower Providence Township. There is also a 2 mile walking course.
Amenities: Water stop on course, food, refreshments & entertainment at finish. Instant results at finish, and results posted on www.pretzelcitysports.com in 24-48 hours. Plenty of parking is available at the Lower Providence Fire Department grounds. Doggie bandanas for your registered dog too.

More Info-Small Steps in Speech
Mission: The mission of Small Steps in Speech is to help children with speech and/or language disorders take the steps needed to be better communicators. This is achieved through grants and donations to service providers and qualifying charitable organizations. The foundation was created in honor of SSG Marc 
Small, fiancé of Amanda Charney, foundation director. Marc had dreams of Amanda opening her own private practice and came up with the name, “Small Steps in Speech” to symbolize her soon to be last name along with the small steps children must take to build their communication skills. When the heart breaking news came of Marc’s passing, starting this non-profit foundation seemed like a good way to start keeping Marc Small’s memory alive and keep him close to her heart.
