Hello Summer!  This past Tuesday (June 21st) was the Summer Solstice, the day with the most hours of sunlight during the year and the official start of the Summer season.  Although we’re not certain of the weather conditions for this weekend, we do know for sure that there’s a lot happening around Montgomery County, PA, rain or shine.  We’ve always had an idea that there were a few events going on around the county each weekend, but it wasn’t until we started writing this weekly post that we realized just how much activity MontCo has to offer.

Skateboarding & Live Music Event @ Montgomeryville Mall: Jump-start your weekend with live music, professional skateboarding, and demonstrations at the Montgomeryville Mall this Friday.  This event, starting at noon and continuing until 6 PM, promises an exciting time and features the local bands Valencia and I See Stars.  Perfect for teenagers, music fanatics, or anyone looking for a reason to visit the Montgomeryville Mall, the event is free for all.  More information on the 11th Annual Zumiez Couch Tour can be found here.

Valencia To Perform at the Event

Beer Fest (Lansdale):  Beer Fest…in Lansdale…this Saturday 12:15PM-4:30PM…need I say more?  This is a big event!  With over 50 breweries, more than 100 beers, 4 live bands/dj’s and a pig roast, we think this is a “must attend” event for anyone with an interest in quality beer.  Regular admission tickets can be purchased online for $35 ($40 at the event).  Also, a premier package is available for $70.  Please remember not to drink and drive.  Special “Designated Driver” tickets are also available for $10.  To purchase tickets or for the listing of attending breweries, please visit the Lansdale Beer Fest 2011 website.

Skippack Bike Show: Attention motorcycle enthusiasts – Skippack Village and Blue Comets welcome bikers from around the area to show off their bikes and compete for prizes.  Stop by from 11AM-3PM this Saturday (June 25th) to register your bike in the show.  At 5PM, prizes will be awarded to the competition winners.

Great American Campout (Your Backyard): Following an afternoon of beer tasting at the Lansdale Beer Fest, why not enjoy the evening by camping out?  This Saturday night (June 25th), The National Wildlife Federation is sponsoring the Great American Backyard Campout.  Gather the family, pitch a tent, fire up the BBQ and invite over the neighbors for a night under the stars.  This great idea is totally free, requires no traveling, and encourages everyone to get outside for some fresh air!

Canal Day (Schuylkill Canal – Mont Clare): On Sunday (June 26th) the Schuylkill Canal Association hosts the 29th Annual Canal Day from 9AM-4PM at Lock 60 & St. Michael’s Park in Mont Clare.  If the Beer Fest is the place to be on Saturday, Canal Day is where you want to spend your day at on Sunday.  There are scores of fun/interesting events taking place this year at Canal Day.  Events include a fishing derby, flea market, horseshoe tournament, canoe/kayak race, “canal joust” and live music concert just to name a few.
